Since its inception, VLX has served as a crucial platform for experimental artists, showcasing over 300 films and performances from creators worldwide. VASTLAB was founded to provide emerging artists in cinema and music with opportunities to connect and foster communal art experiences. Through innovative approaches to distribution and exhibition, VASTLAB has brought together experimental film, interactive design, and music genres to cultivate dynamic collaborations. Expanding beyond Los Angeles, VASTLAB has partnered with organizations to establish alternative spaces for screenings, happenings, and pop-up installations. Over time, it has grown into a traveling cultural event, bridging international experimental film communities with Los Angeles artists. Today, VASTLAB continues to support a network of art organizations and local theaters that sustain and strengthen independent film scenes.
The films featured at this year’s VLX6 showcase a global perspective, with contributions from filmmakers based in the United States, Canada, France, Japan, South Africa, Germany, Australia, and Brazil. These works explore a wide range of thought-provoking themes, including the intricate connections between humanity and nature, the complexity of memory and identity, the challenges posed by emerging technologies, and the surreal landscapes of dreams that question reality. This year’s lineup includes both emerging talents and established visionaries, offering audiences an opportunity to experience innovative storytelling and diverse cultural perspectives. By continuing to amplify unique voices, VLX reaffirms its role as a vital platform for bold and imaginative artistic expression, delivering transformative cinematic experiences.
